- Nov 66:00 PMCultural Event: New Hanover County Community Remembrance ProjectIn 2020, one of Honors' key community partners, the New Hanover County Community Remembrance Project, researched victims of the 1898 massacre, traced their descendants, and located the unmarked grave of one victim, Joshua Halsey. Partnering with the Equal Justice Initiative, the NHCCRP also collected soil from the sites where identified Black victims were killed during the 1898 coup and massacre, as a way to bear witness to this history and terrorism. That work allowed for a public funeral for Halsey, a reunion for descendants, and has since broadened to multiple projects around local history and youth development. The 1898 soil jars will be on display in Randall Library throughout November, and the lead researchers for the NHCCRP will be talking about their work on Thursday, Nov. 6th, from 6-8pm. Come meet members of the NHCCRP and learn about this community-wide research project, the networks it's building, and the work it's continuing to do in Sherman Hayes Gallery of Randall Library!Hosted by: Honors CollegeAdditional Information can be found at: https://uncw.campuslabs.com/engage/event/11845629
