Two UNCW faculty members have been awarded prestigious Fulbright honors for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Michelle Cathorall, associate professor in the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, was named a Fulbright U.S. Scholar for her public health work in Uganda, while Danielle Daidone, associate professor of Spanish and linguistics, received a Fulbright Postdoctoral Research Award to study second language acquisition in Barcelona.

Cathorall will spend fall 2025 in Uganda implementing “Empower Health: Training Village Health Technicians for Effective Malaria Prevention,” a community-based initiative aimed at reducing malaria through local engagement and education.  Explore the full details about her project.

Daidone’s project “Learning Similar-Sounding Words in a Second Language: A Help or a Hindrance?” will explore how bilingual Spanish and Catalan speakers perceive English sounds and how this perception affects their vocabulary acquisition. Learn more about her research.
