Harold G. Davis Sr.

June 5, 1930–June 29, 2024

Deeply involved in supporting U.S. veterans and community service, Harold G. Davis Sr. was a U.S. Army veteran who served in North Korea and was employed by Bell Labs for most of his career, where he worked on national defense projects.

The husband of the late Alida Montufar Davis, a registered nurse for 65 years, Harold was a supporter of nursing scholarships at UNCW. He was a catalyst for the 40&8 Scholarship Endowment, one of the largest and oldest funds in the School of Nursing.

Among his many notable contributions, he was an honorary life member of the American Legion Post 10 and spent the last 15 years searching for family members to provide the DNA needed to identify the remains of over 8,000 POW/MIAs from the Korean War. He was the recipient of the NC Governor's Order of the Long Leaf Pine and was named the New Hanover County Volunteer of the Year.

He is survived by his sons, Harold Davis Jr. and wife Kristy and their daughter Alice, of Broadway, and Louis H. Davis and wife Susana, of Raleigh.

Glenn W. Hodges ’68

October 31, 1946–February 12, 2024

Glenn Wesley Hodges ’68, a graduate of New Hanover High School and Wilmington College, where he was
a standout on the golf team. He was a long-time Seahawk Club supporter and established the Robbie and Glenn Hodges Scholarship in Nursing.

Glenn lived a full, long and charmed life, never passing up an opportunity or being afraid to take a risk. He took over the family business, Hodges Electric Co., founded by his father in 1957 and carved out his own niche in the Wilmington business community.

He is survived by his wife Robbie Burnett Hodges ’73, his children Angela, Wes and Tate, and Tate’s wife Davita, who provided invaluable care to Glenn in his final days, his sister Vicky Lettmann, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and his lifelong best friend Major General Tommy Dyches ’69 and his wife, Pam.

Jack H. Mills Sr.

July 16, 1931–Sept. 8, 2024

Jack Howard Mills Sr. led an active and fulfilling life in service to others for 93 years. A member of the Wilmington Society, Jack was a long-time supporter of UNCW, the Seahawk Club and established the Jack and Carol Mills Scholarship in History Endowment.

After a successful career in sales and marketing, Jack pursued his love of volunteerism, contributing his time and energy to the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, the UNCW Adult Scholars Program (earning Volunteer of the Year in 2008), Meals on Wheels, the Cape Fear Literacy Council, the Faithful Men’s ensemble and the Cape Fear Museum.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Carol Heister Mills and his son,
Jack Howard Mills Jr. He is survived by his two daughters Caryn Mills La Vere and Barb Mills Courtney, both of Wilmington NC, his daughter-in-law Theresa Mills of Boston, his son-in-law David La Vere, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and his brother Richard Mills of Florida.

Lynda C. Walker ’66

Oct. 23, 1944-May 9, 2024

Lynda Comer Walker lived a life filled with warmth, kindness and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. In 1966, Linda graduated from Wilmington College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education with an emphasis on elementary grades. She had a passion for teaching children and taught for more than 20 years.

She is survived by her husband Chuck Walker, children Charles Clayton Walker III (Liz), Julie Walker Bradham and Joseph Thomas Walker (Susan), two sisters Mary Corcoran and Patricia Smith (Lou), and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother- and father-in-law Gladys and Charlie Walker and by her brothers Jeff Comer (Jan) and Mickey Corcoran (Janet).
