Hoyer Takes Reins of UNCW Volleyball Program
UNCW Director of Athletics Michael Oblinger has announced the hiring of Lorelle Hoyer as head coach of the volleyball program.
“I’m pleased to announce the hiring of Lorelle Hoyer as our next head coach of the volleyball program,” said Oblinger. “Lo brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of winning and will be an excellent leader for our program.”
Hoyer comes to UNCW following three seasons as the head coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she helped the Crimson Hawks to a 67-29 record and the NCAA Division II Tournament all three seasons. Prior to her arrival in 2021, IUP had not competed in the NCAA postseason since 2017.
"Thank you to Michael (Oblinger), Laura (Pearson), Chancellor Volety and the committee for entrusting me as the next head coach of UNCW volleyball,” said Hoyer. “I am excited about the opportunity in front of me and cannot wait to get on the ground and get to work. My family and staff are looking forward to immersing ourselves in the Seahawk community and bringing a championship culture to Hanover Hall."
In her final season at IUP, the Crimson Hawks posted a 24-9 record and reached as high as second in the Atlantic Region rankings. IUP won three straight matches in the Pennsylvania State Athletics Conference to gain the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to taking over the IUP program, Hoyer served as an assistant coach on the staff at Idaho and Southern Utah and was a graduate assistant coach at NC Central. She also served as the Director of Operations while at UTSA.
Hoyer, a 2009 graduate of UConn, was a two-time letter winner for the Huskies.
